It is entirely possible to share all the reservations I describe above and still support putting a price on carbon.

This rampant destruction has also reduced the natural carbon sequestration abilities that boreal forests have historically served.

The energy transition’s main objective is to be off carbon by 2050 and divide greenhouse gas emissions by four.

Currently we emit about 39.2 billion tons of carbon dioxide per year — and that number is only rising.

There’s an argument that carbon pricing would work better together in conjunction with certain regulations — rather than simply being traded for each other.

The energy world is very, very far from a perfect market, which means a carbon tax can’t solve the climate problem alone.

And yet … there seem to be real political constraints on how high carbon taxes can go, even with refunds.

6) A carbon tax won’t get enacted over the next four years unless Republicans get on board.
